I also own an engwe ep-2 pro model that I am extremely satisfied with, but this model far exceeds my expectations, a very powerful engine and a large, comfortable long-distance range, I can say that's the right thing.

Additional leisure eBike

I bought an Engwe L20 3.0 Pro because of the long range and because it's foldable. I already have a full-sized eBike, but it doesn't fit in the car and is far too heavy for a 65-year-old to get onto a roof rack. Having exhausted all local leisure rides, I want to discover more rides by car or train.
I took it out for the first time yesterday in Hampshire, UK, having given up on waiting for a nice sunny day to try it out. Impressed by how it handled the hills and its comfort, the dual suspension makes a difference. I did about 16 miles, and the battery was down to 70%, so a 50-60 mile range looks possible, maybe more if I don't throw it at a particularly hilly route, like yesterday.
Some minor things...
I need to adjust the saddle, as I think it’s too far forward and feels like I’m slipping forward off it.
The roads were still wet from all the recent rain, and the rear mudguard doesn't seem quite long enough to stop the spray going over my rack bag and up my back.
This bike is really responsive and a joy to ride up to the 15mph assisted limit; after that, it's a real slog to get any further speed out of it, particularly as it runs out of gears. Not a problem for the leisure use I plan for it.
Assembling was fine, though there was no allen key to adjust the position of the display so I could lock down the handlebars and then move the display back. The position of the front wheel hub spacers was not that clear from the diagram.
It was delivered within 1 week of ordering. My only disappointment is that some of the accessories I would like are out of stock for 3 months.

Best economical middrive folding small ebike

1. Strong low-speed acceleration and hill climbing

The 100Nm torque is genuinely powerful. It’s strong rather than fast, and the climbing ability is excellent. The torque is so strong that it can comfortably handle very deep slopes, which is quite impressive.

2. Rare configuration
A folding e-bike with a mid-drive motor and triple suspension is very rare in the small-bike market. This combination is hard to find elsewhere at this price point.

3. Customer support
Customer service response during UK late-night hours (which align with Shenzhen daytime office hours) was fast and efficient. I also appreciate their willingness to replace my kickstand when needed.

4. Very bright front light
The front bike light is impressively bright and easily illuminates rural paths with no street lighting, which makes night riding much safer.

Overall
Considering the price, this e-bike offers excellent value and a very unique setup. A solid choice if you want strong climbing performance in a compact, folding mid-drive e-bike.

Engwe L20 3.0 Pro. Jan 2026. Heaven on wheels ?

I already had a good crossbar hybrid ebike for several years. However, it was getting difficult to get my leg over the crossbar (I'm 75), so I looked around for a suitable step through ebike to replace it. There were several boxes to tick. 1, Wide step through frame for easy to mount / dismount. 2, Mid drive motor to make punctures & tyre changes easier. This also gives more torque through the gears for hill climbing. 3, Decent brakes. 4, Good lights. 5 ,Long battery range giving 40 - 50 miles real world distance per charge. 6, Comfortable upright riding style for enjoyable leisure riding.

After much searching I found the Engwe L20 3.0 Pro seemed to tick all of those boxes and more ( on paper ). So I crossed fingers and bought one. The discounted price made it exceptionally good value for the high spec features. So what is it like in real life, on the road ?

I live in a rural area up in the mountains of North Wales. The roads are narrow, twisty and steep, with very few level stretches. Therefore speed isn't a priority but the ability to climb very steep hills without having to get off and push is ! This ebike absolutely excels at that. I've only had it for about 10 days and have done over 50 miles on it so far, it rains a lot here in January. In order to test it out I've searched for all the steepest hills I could find in my immediate area. Some of them really are steep and long. Haven't failed on one yet. Indeed, I was amazed to find that it sailed up some in second gear at about 10 mph. Only on the very steepest did I really need bottom gear but even then it was relatively easy pedalling. It does have a "walk assist" button but I haven't needed it yet.

It's comfortable saddle and upright riding position make for a pleasurable ride and the large, semi fat, 3 inch tyres with a road type tread absorb irregular tarmac surfaces and the dual suspension softens the potholes somewhat. I've found that the real world mileage from the battery should give me about 40 to 50 miles from a full charge on these roads, especially as I appear to only need "PAS 4" most of the time, not full power "PAS 5".

A note of caution, though. Being a mid drive bike, which delivers it's power through the drive train, you do need to be more attentive of your use of the gears and how you change gear. Always change down before starting up a hill or stopping at a junction. Trying to change down while the chain is under full torque from the motor or pull away from a junction in top gear can cause serious damage and wear to the chain and sprocket. It needs a more pro active attention to your riding technique than a hub drive bike.

In conclusion, then, I've nick-named this ebike "heaven on wheels". It is a near perfect bike to keep me on two wheels around these hills well into my late 70s and perhaps beyond.

Handles hills, folds easy, and fully road legal

I spent ages watching YouTube reviews and weighing up the pros and cons before settling on the L20 3.0 Pro in black, and I’m really pleased with it.

The motor handles hills with ease — plenty of power when you need it — and the battery life has been impressive. It’s become my go-to for getting to tennis, popping to the shops, and commuting to work. Folds up easily and fits in the car without any fuss.

One thing that sold me was that it can’t be unlocked, so no worries about the police crushing it. Being road legal also means I can insure it properly, which gives me peace of mind given how common bike theft is in London. If the worst happens, at least I know I’m covered.

I’ve also stuck a cushion on the back rack to use as a seat for short trips — works a treat.

Overall, very happy with the purchase. Highly recommended.
